Pet play is the act of entering a pet or animal-like headspace, whether it be a puppy, cow, pony, or even a mythical creature like a dragon. Or, you could be an owner (handler, master, trainer), which is typically the dominant end of pet play, the person who looks after the pet. But not always! You can have a scene with two pets, one being the dom over the other, or you can have a scene where the pet is directing the show all on their own (such as an “aggressive” wild animal).
A lot of kinksters start out by going to their local pet store and getting large dog collars (listen, some dog collars are really nice) and leashes, along with bowls (I tend to stick with shallower cat bowls for eating and drinking - it fits the human face better), and toys! Like tug toys, cat toys, plushies, and so on. If you are looking to spend some money, look on the internet, or your local BDSM shop, for harnesses, hoods, gags, anal tail plugs, and more! If you will be playing on all fours for extended periods, knee pads and gloves (such as MMA gloves) are very important. Make sure you are careful when playing on carpeted flooring, as it will dig into your hands and knees if you play on it for long. One of the main roles in my relationship with my Sir is being his pet. Between being a little and a pet, it’s hard to say which I identify with more. I’d like to say my dynamic is becoming more eclectic, but those are the labels I resonate with most. For me, being a pet an extremely varying experience. Sometimes, I am super energized and excitable, bouncing around and barking at my owner, ready to go. Other times I find myself straddling Master’s leg, begging for friction with my tongue stuck out and whining. Mostly, though, being a pet is a nonsexual headspace for me. I can’t speak for anyone but myself! Pupping out can be a relaxing, enjoyable experience, and can even relieve some of the pressure from everyday life. I like to eat and drink out of bowls, play with tugging toys, or just play fetch. I enjoy being pet, rubbed, and praised. Head scratches and pats are a commodity in my house. Along with that, praise can be a big thing for me, both in and out of pet play. I love being walked on a leash by my owner. I sometimes wear ears and tails that fit my current pet space. At my core, I am a pup, but I didn’t discover that until only recently. For the majority of my kink life, I thought I was exclusively a kitten. Now I am tip-toeing into cow and pig space with my partner also. My pet play takes many forms. Whether it be for intimacy or sexual pleasure, it is something I can continue to come back to over and over again. I believe it will be a passion of mine for a long time. Until that changes, I’m sure you all will be hearing lots about my experiences in pet play from now on. Here are some resources from around the web I have found to be useful:
